HydroCTech technology
The Profoto L1600D Mono-LED offers a speed of use that sets it apart from other lights on the market, thanks to its power-to-weight ratio and its unique new cooling technology, HydroCTech.
In addition to the liquid cooling system, the light features two 140 mm fans. We’ll have to wait and see, in real-life conditions, whether the noise is reasonable.
Energy efficiency
When it comes to energy efficiency, Profoto explains that the new L1600D uses 97% of its electrical energy to create light. This optimum efficiency not only reduces energy loss in the form of heat, but also ensures intense brightness while preserving energy consumption.
With a light power of 1600 W, the L1600D is designed to offer powerful, constant illumination, while guaranteeing outstanding energy performance.
Color temperature
Light color temperature is 5700 K, offering a TLCI/CRI score of 97. Profoto emphasizes that the L1600D produces “the purest light” and guarantees flicker-free operation, regardless of the frame rate used.
In terms of performance, the L1600D delivers a light intensity of 3,850 lux at a distance of five meters (16.4 feet) when used with the integrated wide reflector, which has a 60-degree beam. By contrast, with the Boost reflector, which has a 12-degree beam, brightness reaches 49,000 lux at the same distance.
Light modifier compatibility
The L1600D has been designed to be compatible with a wide range of light modifiers. It also offers a dual mounting option: it features the well-known Profoto mount, but also a Bowens mount.
This dual mounting allows users to take advantage of a wider variety of lighting tools, while ensuring greater ease of use and versatility.
Design and dimensions
The L1600D Mono-LED lamp measures 50 x 26 x 29 cm with integrated reflector, and weighs 11.7 kg for light head and stand. Although Profoto presents it as an easy-to-carry light due to its relatively light weight, it’s not the lightest on the market.
Profoto has equipped its first-ever continuous light with a new, patent-pending swivel yoke to offer greater flexibility and ease of movement when adjusting your lighting.
The L1600D is IP54-rated, protecting it against dust and splashing water. If water comes into contact with the light, it will remain protected against infiltration, but it must not be exposed to rain without additional protection.
Profoto BoostReflector
The L1600D Mono-LED comes with its own reflector, the Profoto BoostReflector. Designed to maximize the power and reach of light, the BoostReflector has a deep shape and highly reflective interior, making it ideal for situations requiring intense light, whether for diffusing or bouncing light.
